Our #EcoGenius today is… Lilyan Farris!
Lilyan Farris, an 11 year old girl from Bridgeville (Delaware), USA, who is a sixth grader and founder of «The Lily Project».
What does this project consist of?
Lilyan has been volunteering since she was 4 years old, so she discovered how much fun it is to help others while spreading a message of love and kindness. Despite that, she has found it difficult to volunteer because of the prejudices that others placed on her age: «people saw my age and thought I couldn’t help».
That’s when she decided to prove that children also have the ability to contribute, so she started encouraging others to join «The Lily Projet» as volunteers.
Along with other young people, she collected more than 1,500 books to create a children’s library at a treatment center for mothers struggling with addiction, created 300 creative kits for local school children, donated socks for the homeless, and designed an online activity book for children about the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lilyan and her team of volunteers have used materials that were discarded but not used, thus reusing 4,500 items that others considered trash.
