Laurent Simons, an 11-year-old child prodigy from the Belgium city of Ostend, has become one of the youngest ever college graduates after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in physics at the University of Antwerp in Belgium with a higher distinction than all other students after graduating with 85 percent.
Simons also completed the course after just one year, rather than the usual three years. Once he has completed that the 11-year-old West Fleming reportedly plans to start work on his doctorate.
Laurent Simons’ status as a prodigy was already well-known.
Three years ago, at the age of 8, he completed his secondary school studies at a school in Bruges.
Laurent grew up in Belgium with his grandparents while his parents worked in the Netherlands. He started primary school when he was 4, and went to high school at 6, according to his father. They always considered that their grandson had special talents and a superior intellect, and encouraged him.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Simons said: «I don’t really care if I’m the youngest…it’s all about getting knowledge for me.
«Immortality, that is my goal. I want to be able to replace as many body parts as possible with mechanical parts. I’ve mapped out a path to get there. You can see it as a big puzzle. Quantum physics—the study of the smallest particles—is the first piece of the puzzle,» he said.
Simons wants to make artificial hearts. The grandparents he grew up with have heart conditions. “I’d like to help people like them,” he said.
He, like other children, also likes TV series. playing video games, sometimes goes swimming and has thousands of followers on Instagram.
We hope that Laurent will be able to achieve his goals, cultivating his heart and mind always in the service of goodwill for an increasingly vital planet.
